[updated April 1, 2020] With significant changes to Sheridan's working environment brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic, we've put together this collection of resources for employees who are working remotely.

Do you need to meet or collaborate remotely?

Cisco Jabber: Bring your Sheridan phone extension to your computer

Jabber iconCisco Jabber puts your Sheridan phone extension on your computer and delivers instant messaging, voice and video calls, voice messaging, desktop sharing, and conferencing. All Sheridan employees who currently have a desktop phone or mobility extension have already been provisioned with Jabber accounts. If you run into issues or if you do not have a Jabber account, but would like one, contact the IT Service Desk.

The Jabber desktop app can be downloaded from AppsAnywhere.

Cisco Webex Meetings

Webex iconThe Webex desktop app allows you to start and join meetings quickly and easily. You can schedule, start, and join meetings from your desktop, the Webex web interface, or directly from Microsoft Outlook.

Getting a Webex Account

While there is no account required to attend a Webex meeting, Sheridan employees will need to request a Webex account in order to schedule meetings* (accounts are no longer automatically provisioned). To get your account, go to getwebex.sheridancollege.ca. Note that it takes about an hour for your Webex account to become active after your request is fulfilled.

Microsoft Sharepoint Online

Sharepoint Online is a cloud-based service that enables you to collaborate with colleagues. With Sharepoint, you can access internal sites, documents, and other information from anywhere—at the office, at home, or from a mobile device. Launch Sharepoint Online from the Office 365 app launcher with a single click.

Microsoft Teams

MS Teams iconMicrosoft Teams is a unified communication and collaboration platform that combines persistent workplace chat, video meetings, file storage (including collaboration on files), and application integration. Teams are made up of channels. Each channel is typically built around a faculty/department name or topic. Channels are where you hold meetings, have conversations, and work on files together.

To request a Teams group for your department, contact the IT Service Desk, providing the following details:

  • Name of your Faculty, Department, etc.
  • Name of the Faculty/Department leader
  • Individuals who will require access to the Team channel (Sheridan email address or username required)
  • Name of an individual will act as a local Microsoft Teams 'champion’ or point-of-contact

Do you need access to cloud storage?

OneDrive

OneDrive provides each Sheridan user with 1TB of online storage space. To start using your Sheridan OneDrive Online service visit office.sheridancollege.ca and login with your Sheridan credentials to access your OneDrive Online account.

We encourage you to move any files you need to access and/or share to your OneDrive for the easiest access from multiple locations and devices.

Do you need to access your Sheridan email offsite?

Outlook on the Web and more

Outlook on the Web is the quick and easy way to get your Sheridan email without installing or configuring any additional software. Simply use your web browser to connect to your email.

  1. Go to Sheridan's Office portal page
  2. Enter your Sheridan username and password at the prompt.
  3. Select the Outlook link to access your email.

Do you need to connect to secure College resources?

Cisco Anyconnect

Cisco Anyconnect iconIf you need to connect to enterprise applications remotely, like one of those listed below, you will need a VPN (virtual private network) client app.

Cisco Anyconnect offers Sheridan employees secure access to campus resources that would normally not be available off-campus. This VPN client uses advanced encryption and tunneling to create a private network connection to the Sheridan network over the Internet. This effectively places your remote computer directly on the Sheridan network.

Do you have the software you need?

AppsAnywhere

appsanywhere iconAppsAnywhere is Sheridan's software distribution portal and provides all Sheridan employees and students with an easy way to access software, on demand, through a web browser.

Adobe Creative Cloud (CC)

Adobe CC iconAdobe CC is available to Sheridan employees to install on up to two devices and includes applications like Photoshop, IllustratorDreamweaver and more. Visit the AppsAnywhere portal to get Adobe CC.

Microsoft Office 365 Pro Plus

Office 365 iconOffice 365 is a complete suite of software tools for things you do most, and features apps such as Word, Excel, Powerpoint, One Note, and Outlook. Go to office.sheridancollege.ca to access your subscription.

* users who received laptops for remote work during the COVID-19 crisis will need to activate their Office apps
